Nikolaus-Regatta Kettwig 2009

dsc_2509While their friends were carefully preparing their boots waiting for St. Nikolaus, the rowers at Jacobs were packing their rowing outfits and warm clothes preparing for a weekend in Kettwig where they participated in the Nikolausregatta.

The two days spent in rainy Kettwig not only increased the endurance of the five teams but also brought some notable results. The beginners’ women coaxed quad managed not only to come first in their race with a remarkable time of 20 minutes and 10 seconds but also to surpass the beginners’ men four with more than one minute. The other women’s four team with their powerful performance managed to rank 4 out of 6.

The Men’s Eight were only 17 seconds (!!) behind their fellow masters at VRV who managed to win the race in their category. These results can only make the rowers look forward confidently to the next season which will include events like Jacobs Ergo Cup, races in Lübeck and Amsterdam, training camps and the long expected Hanse Rowing Cup against the HSBA.

dsc_2700Apart from the good results, the Kettwig Race proved to be an exceptional teambuilding outing since this semester the Jacobs rowing team welcomed many new members. In their free time the rowers experienced German culture by attending the Kettwig Christmas Market. Following this great experience, the core team is already looking forward to their next training camp short after holidays in “Sportpark Rabenberg”.
