WE DID IT!! WE ERGED 3078 KM in 24 HOURS! WE RAISED OVER 7000 EUR! Firstly, the JURT would like to thank all the local Bremen club participants (list below), sponsors (list below) and ultimately our donors for their efforts to help us reach our goal. We could have not done any of this without your help. What seemed at first like a daunting task, eventually seemed like an achievable goal as the momentum and support continued to grow. This ultimately resulted in a very significant achievement in many of our lives, with a very important and significant impact in other peoples lives. We were...

Fari Cup 2015

We took the waters on one of the most beautiful days ever seen over the last few years on the Alster. The sun was out and the spirits were high. We had entered four boats this year (freshies M4x+,F4x+, Senior F4x+ and M8+). Both the women's and men's freshie boats did considerably well for their first long distance race (4.2 Km). The final place in the standings was not ideal, but the thrill and the desire of racing has officially caught and will now drive them to push even harder for future races. Both seniors boats did great this year! Each setting new JURT records! The girls managed to finished...

Success in Celle! The Winning Streak Continues

After a Saturday of racing at the Celle regatta the men’s rowing team remains undefeated. The day began with the Xental-Achtercup, which was a series 350 meter sprints. Two wins were required to win the Xental-Achtercup and with tight racing between the two other eights ( from Celler Ruderverein e.V. and Hermann Billung Celle e.V.) it took four sprints to determine the victor. However, Jacobs eight came out on top wining a 300 euro prize pot which will be donated to help refugees affected by the crisis in the middle east. The day progressed with the mixed eight, which although was behind...

Successful Bremen Meisterschaft!

On the 19th of September, the Jacobs University Rowing team participated in the Bremer Meisterchaft on the Werdersee. The day started out with rain and yawns, arguably a less than perfect combination for the years first regatta. But after the team took a couple wrong buses attempting to get from Bremen Central Station to near the site of the regatta and trudged down a confusing succession of seemingly identical streets to reach the river, the sun began to come out and spirits lifted considerably. The first race of the day for Jacobs was the women's double, Natasha Danailovska and Jessi McMullen...

43rd Heineken Roeivierkamp Cup 2015

Amstel River 13th - 15th March 2015 On Friday evening part of the rowing team left for the Heineken Cup in Amsterdam. We were able to participate with a coxed men’s eight (8+) and a coxed women’s quad (4x+). The Saturday races consisted of a 2,5 kilometer race and a 250 meters sprint for both our boats. 52 boats participated in the same category as our 8+. Despite the strong competition we made the 12th place in the 2,5k race. After the 250 meter sprint, however, the men’s eight finished on place 21, thus not qualifying for the races the next day. Our 4x+ raced the same race on Saturday...

Jacobs Ergocup 2015

On the 14th of March it was time for the first face-off between the Hamburg School of Business Administration Rowing Team and the Jacobs University Rowing Team in 2015. This year, for the first time in its eight-year history, the Ergo Cup did not take place in the Campus Center but in the Cinema on the Campus of Jacobs University. After having dinner and the traditional “noodle party” the night before, a pasta dinner for the entire team to get loaded with carbohydrates, the team met the next morning in the cinema. The main races of both universities, the women’s four and double and the men’s...

Celler Regatta

After the very successful Bremer Meisterschaften on October 3rd, part of Rowing Team hit the road to Celle the same night. With a few people still arriving Saturday morning, it was the first time for Jacobs University to participate in Celle. We were able to compete in the usual boat classes as well as several mixed boats. Especially these mixed boats but also the male four were able to defeat their opponents. Unfortunately the women´s boats were not able to cross the finish line first, but gained valuable experiences for future races. The eight, this time also with a mixed crewcame in 2nd in an exiting...

Bremer Meisterschaft 2014

On the 3rd of October, the Jacobs University Rowing team participated in the Bremer Meisterschaft on Werdersee. The day started with an unpleasant surprise for the people living on campus: Due to the public holiday, the serveries were only scheduled to open at 10:30 am for breakfast. We on the other hand were scheduled to leave campus no later than 10:00 am. Grumpy and with empty stomachs we headed out to downtown Bremen, following Lars’ very specific instructions: “Genau, you just have to go to where the playground is!” We arrived and met up with the rest of the team and started unloading...
